MICATA Elections MICATA elections are not far off…..
and that means that individuals will be asked to serve our chapter for the 2008-09 year beginning in September.
Our Nominations Committee must seek candidates for office who are, according to our organization’s bylaws, “active” members of the ATA. If you would like to serve your profession as a MICATA officer or director, but do not enjoy “active” status, I encourage you to consider seriously the idea of taking steps toward ATA certification. One may become certified by way of the ATA certification examination, or by a peer-review process. Isn’t it time to take that next step in your own professional development? You can help yourself, and help MICATA, in the process!
After a successful symposium at Southern Nazarene University in March, and a recent MICATA-sponsored training workshop for Trados users in Kansas City, we look forward to other opportunities to develop our skills and learn from each other next year. Maybe you would like to serve on a committee? There are no membership-status restrictions for those who would like to help with the annual symposia, or fora linguarum sessions, an additional outreach event or two, and social gatherings.
To help us stay informed, we’re reviving the popular MICATA Monitor and will soon unveil a new website design. We want to welcome interpreters who will find in MICATA an organization that is sensitive to and supportive of their particular needs. So if you want to help build the translator/interpreter community in our region, please contact me, or a member of the board of directors (micata@gmail.com).
If you are an active member, or are in the process of certification, and you would like to be a candidate for office, please let Nominations Chair Doris Ganser (Doris@transimpex.com) know that you are available. Don’t wait for a phone call. It would be terrific to have two candidates for every office, don’t you think? All healthy organizations need to continue to develop leadership opportunities among their members. New leaders bring new and fresh ideas. They help to infuse our chapter with new energy and enthusiasm.
Are you ready to answer the call?
